【Abstract】 Objective To evaluate the effect of intensive insulin therapy on adrenal cortex and sympatho-adrenomedullary function in patients with newly diagnosed T2DM. Methods A total of 30 patients with newly diagnosed T2DM were enrolled in this study. All the patients were treated with intensive insulin therapy. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG), fasting C-peptide (FC-P),2 h postprandial plasma glucose(2 hPG),2 h postprandial C-peptide (2 hC-P) ,24 h urine free cortisol (UFC), 24 h urine normetanephrine (NM),24h urine metanephrine(MN) and beta-cell function index(△C-P/△PG) were measured at baseline and after treatment. Results Compared with baseline characteristics, FPG, 2 hPG, 24 hUFC and UNM were all decreased, while △C-P/△PG increased after treatment(P<0.05). Conclusion In patients with newly diagnosed T2DM,intensive insulin treatment could inhibit the hyperactivity of HPA axis in hyperglycemia status, and might inhibit the hyperactivity of sympathetic system by reducing norepinephrine level.
